The Art of Seeing –

Van Gogh’s Eyes of Imagination

Thursday 31st October 2024

 7-8pm UK time via Zoom

£10

“In a painting, I like to say something consoling, like a piece of music.“

Van Gogh, in a letter to his brother, Theo

 This session will be recorded.

Inspired by the recent Van Gogh exhibition, Lovers & Poets, at the National Gallery, London, this month’s The Art of Seeing will explore one work from the exhibition. All of the images from this exhibition have been brought together from around the world, and all were created over a period of two years when Van Gogh was in the south of France.

Over just two years in the south of France, Van Gogh revolutionised his style in a symphony of poetic colour and texture. He was inspired by poets, writers and artists (The National Gallery).

The image I have chosen for our session from the exhibition, brings to life again this period of time and place, through Van Gogh’s extraordinary visionary eyes of imagination.  We see and feel how this landscape and its people stirred Van Gogh’s senses, emotions and imagination, and in turn, we can’t help but feel moved in similar ways.  His work can leave us with a deeper appreciation of art as one of our most remarkable portals which reminds us of beauty in all its forms, through nature, through people, and of Van Gogh’s creative genius which was never realised during his lifetime.

This session offers a tripartite approach of theory, practice and reflection and you are encouraged to participate as much or as little as you like.

This session was £10. If you would like to receive a recording you can click one of the buttons below.
