The Art of Seeing

 the Enchantment of Nature

Thursday 24th August 2023

 7-8pm UK time via Zoom

£10

“I strove with none, for none was worth my strife:
Nature I loved, and, next to Nature, Art:
I warm’d both hands before the fire of Life;
It sinks and I am ready to depart”

Walter Savage Landor

 This session will be recorded.

 Nature has been the inspiration for artists for millennia, but it has also been the material, the ‘stuff’ of the earth itself, which has provided the means to do this, whether pigment or stone. Art is essentially Nature and Nature is infinitely creative and unique. It makes sense then that Nature can captivate us, make us feel awestruck, feel sensations we may have forgotten and remind us our own intrinsic nature – that we are both distinct from it and are part of it. For an artist to ‘paint’ Nature they learn to see the world differently and in so doing literally bring new ways of seeing the world before our eyes – a world which we are called to participate in. Each work of art has its own unique quality and some art takes us very profoundly into a state of enchantment.

In this month’s Art of Seeing session, we will take a threefold approach of theory, practice and reflection with one work of art which is profoundly inspired by Nature and simultaneously takes us into a state of enchantment, from which we are forever altered. The work of art will not be revealed until the session, but it is by one of the most celebrated artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These sessions are open to everyone whether you are a seasoned art lover or not.

These sessions are £10 per person. Email me directly to book at info@maryattwood.com or you can use the PayPal button below.
