“Great nations write their autobiographies in three manuscripts; the book of their deeds, the book of their words and the book of their art. Not one of these books can be understood unless we read the two others, but of the three the only trustworthy one is the last.”
John Ruskin

During this tour of some of the National Gallery’s most treasured art works, we will take a walk through the ages, beginning in the Sainsbury Wing and ending in the rooms which house early twentieth centuries paintings of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.  I have curated this visit with a particular theme in mind – to really look and see how art changes through the ages, what might it be saying about a human being’s relationship the world, of different perceptions and ways of seeing, and how it carries at the same time something ineffable and permanent. For those of you who have visited the Gallery with me before, we will be looking at a completely new group of paintings that we have not looked at before. These are some of the most iconic images by the most renowned artists which will include; Fra Fillippo Lippi, Botticelli, Uccello, Stubbs, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Monet, Cezanne and Van Gogh. After our tour we will regroup in the restaurant downstairs in the main part of the gallery to discuss any observations and questions.

Numbers will be limited. £35 per person.

Note: If you have accessibility needs, the gallery does have a lift.
